An integrated approach to Irish Music Pedagogy enhancing the delivery of the traditional Irish music curriculum for children 6 – 12 yrs
This course includes:
Music Instruction
Music instruction in a range of Irish Traditional Instruments and Traditional Singing – providing guidance to the non-specialist teacher. (Instrumental tuition for beginner to advanced levels)
Irish Dance
Experience pulse & rhythm through the medium of Irish Dance, integrating music with Physical Education and connecting rhythm to numeracy.
Traditional Singing
Look at a number of Irish songs, enhancing pupils’ literacy skills in both English and Irish
Virtual Trad
Use the internet to enhance the teaching of traditional music
Self Evaluation
“My Irish Music” – Assess how Traditional Irish Music is currently used to enhance pupils’ experience of the 3 strands of music learning.
The course will also explore the following:
Health & Safety in the Music Classroom – Promote an awareness of good practice in the school music classroom.
The value of the use of Traditional Irish Music in guiding pupils through the exploration of pulse and sound.
Enrich teachers own experience of Irish music through facilitating lecture demonstrations recitals and performances by masters of the tradition.
